An Everest Base-Camp Adventure Padraig McGillicuddy, owner of Ballygarry House Hotel & Spa, Tralee & his close friend Pat Chawke, Group Director of O’Reilly Hotels set off on a trek in the Himalayas this March. Their intention was to spend 3 weeks trekking in the Himalayas, firstly to Everest Basecamp at 17,600ft & summit Kala Pattar at 18,600ft. They, then, intended to make a summit attempt of Island Peak at 20,305ft. This was a technical climb and involved the use of insulated Mountaineering boots, crampons, ice axes, ascending & descending devices. For your ordinary everyday passionate climbers, this was a challenging venture. They shared their experiences on a daily blog called www.sherpaandyak.com & it is worth a read. What was their motivation to take on such a mammoth challenge? What type of preparation was needed…and for how long? What was their experience in this area?  What was the overriding feeling when they accomplished each goal? Was there ever a time when they doubted themselves? Join Pat & Padraig in Basecamp during the Killarney Mountain Festival, where they will regale their experience.  If Basecamp Everest is on your bucket list, this is your opportunity to hear all about it first hand, adventurous, inspiring and truly entertaining.
